Train "50 Ways to Say Goodbye"

I thought I should post something from Train since I am going to see them in concert of Sunday night. I have been listening to this band since I was in high school and I have always enjoyed every song they put out. That said I really didn't pay much attention to this song 50 ways to say goodbye when it first started playing on the radio. I think I didn't really love the intro for this song because it kind of has a spanish dance vibe that just doesn't fit with Train music that you here on the radio or the song premise. That said in concert which I have been lucky enough to see them twice before. The lead singer Pat does all sorts of things with their songs like adding spanish dancing that you might not expect but is cool and creative live. So I ignored this song for awhile. Then I figured last night I should down load it. If you get past the intro and into the song about a guy getting dumped and what he is going to tell everyone it's amazing. Just the idea of telling someone your ex got eaten by a shark or lion just makes me laugh because it's totally something we would want to do in an effort to avoid telling someone we got dumped. I just love this song now and even the intro is growing on me. I had it on repeat all last night and this morning. Can't wait to see it live this Sunday. Enjoy the song and enjoy Train.

Michael Buble "Just Haven't Met You Yet"

So I have a date tonight with a guy I haven't met so this song just seemed appropriate. I love the line "I've Broken my Heart so many times I've stopped keeping track." since it's at the beginning of the song you think it could be kind of a sad song. However it is one of the most optimistic songs ever. He never doubts that he will find love he just hasn't found it yet. I love Michael Buble he reminds me of the old crooners like Sinatra and Tony Bennett you I love to this day. Hope you enjoy it!

The Pussy Cat Dolls "When I grow up"

I first heard this song on a commercial for song reality show. The lyrics are not that original but the meaning seems relevant since it seems like everyone wants to be famous. My favorite line is "be careful what you wish for cause you just might get it cause you just might get it." I had my 15 minutes of fame and it wasn't all that is was cracked up to be. I know always wonder about people's families who are affected by a famous person when they themselves had no desire to be famous. This is just a good fun workout song. Enjoy.

Herbie Hancock featuring John Mayer "Stitched up"

I don't know where I first heard this song but I am so glad I did because I love it. While I am a fan of John Mayer's voice and lyrics the true star of this song is the piano playing of Mr. Herbie Hancock. This song makes me sad I missed seeing him life last fall when he was in Seattle. The term "tickling the ivories" definitely applies to this song because it just makes it all very up beat and lively even though the lyrics imply the song is about heartbreak. It is really a treat for the ears and I recommend checking out Herbie Hancock because he is a legend.

Joshua Radin "The Rock and the Tide"

Today's song is in honor of one of my favorite shows coming back from summer hiatus tonight: Parenthood. When the show started I wasn't sure if it would be my cup of tea since I am not a parent but the show is really about family and I have one of those :-). The show also features very good music like Joshua Radin's "The Rock and the Tide" my favorite line of the song is "Everyone gets what they want too fast, these days no one knows how to make things last" and isn't that the truth? We have gotten so used to getting everything we want right away we have really not learned patience. It seems that when things don't work out right away the way we want them to we give up instead of working on them. I really enjoy this song for the worlds and the calming affect it seems to have on me hope you enjoy.

The Beatles "Hey Jude"

I first started listening to the Beatles in about the 5th grade. I went through a very big Oldies phase. I first got hooked on their early songs "Love Me Do" and "I want to hold your Hand" etc. As I grew older I started to appreciate the songs after 1966. These songs seemed to have more meaning than some of the earlier fluff. My favorite has always been "Hey Jude" I especially love the line "don't carry the world up on your shoulders" something I have been known to do often in my real life. While this song maybe long and the last few minutes kind of repeitive the message of the song is great and I highly recommend giving it a listen to.

The Naked and the Famous "Young Blood"

I first heard today's song about a year ago and really enjoyed the sound of it. I wouldn't have called it a love song and if it was the lyrics seemed a bit of a downer in contrast to the upbeat sound it had. Then last spring the song was used during the season finale of one of my favorite shows Whitney they used it for a very romantic part of the show and it made me see the song differently. I still don't really get the lyrics of the song but they seem hopeful now instead of a bummer. Now when I listen to the song it pulls at my heart strings so maybe it is kind of romantic in an unconventional way. Give it a listen.

Mark Ronson featuring Amy Winehouse "Valerie"

Today's song is just a fun get you up outta bed moving around kind of song. It is by Mark Ronson who you may or may not know from his work as a DJ but the vocals are pure Amy Winehouse. She has such a cool voice I am sad that she isn't around to make more wonderful music. I first heard this song in the move 27 dresses (one of my favorites) and I use it anytime I getting ready to go out or even just getting ready for work because it just has that upbeat quality to it.
P.S you may have noticed I changed my colors on the blog well I had to because Tiffany blue is my all time favorite color!

Wolfgang "The King and All His Men"

Well we are in the throws of election season with all of the campaigning and conventions so when I was picking today's song "The King and All of His Men" just kind of fit. I first heard this song last spring I think on the radio maybe 107.7 the end but can't say for sure. I knew a few songs by Wolfgang and this one seemed a little more upbeat than the others. After really listening to the lyrics this line stuck out the most to me "How to be sure that what you say is the truth when I see flaws in everything that you do" how perfect is that when listening to all the nasty campaign messages. Sometimes with voting all you can do is go with your gut because there is just too much "stuff" to sort through. Anyway this song really got me thinking about politics but maybe it will make you think about other things that is what is so great about music everyone has their own interpretation. Enjoy!

Colbie Caillat "Shadow"

Feeling a bit melancholy today probably just a bit of a crash after the crazy, fun, stressful week I had. That said I thought today's song should be thoughtful and slow. I just heard this song "Shadow" last week at the Colbie Caillat concert I went to. She said he wrote it for a friend who had a horrible boyfriend. The line that struck me though was this one "I can't get no sun in your shadow" I thought about how often we allow ourselves to get caught up in the shadows of our friends, our parents or our partners without ever making things happen for ourselves. I have often sat around trying to live vicariously through someone else and it is no fun. Other people can't make our dreams come true and if you want to step out of someone elses' shadow only you can do that as well.

Paul Simon "Kodachrome"

In honor of the last days of summer and this Labor day weekend today's song is Paul Simon's "Kodachrome." This song reminds me of summer days, road trips and camping. On that note this city girl is going to try camping this weekend in a yurt. A yurt, for those of you who don't know is a sort of tent/teepee. Some people don't consider this camping but for this hotel loving girl this is quite an under taking. Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe weekend but don't let your mama take your Kodachrome away :-)

1st Song of the Day

My first song of the day has to come from one of my favorite artists Gavin Degraw. I was lucky enough to see him last night in concert for the 4th time in the past 10 months. I find his voice to be very soulful and he has a very charming stage presence. For my first song I am selecting Gavin Degraw "Run Every Time" from his lastest Album Sweeter. My favorite line in this song is "And I hope she sees it's not her just me and I am so sorry" I love it because as women we so often think we are the reason a guy doesn't want to be in a relationship but this song makes you realize that sometimes guys have issues too keeping them from wanting to commit. Hope you like it!

Welcome to my blog!

So I haved entered the blogging world! I wanted to create a blog that could showcase music new and old. Music is a huge part of my life. Music has the ability to change my mood and provide comfort during difficult times. There are songs the just make you think and songs that are just catchy and fun to listen to, I love both. I am always on the lookout for new music and I seem to find it everywhere from movies, television commericals, television shows and sometimes radio. When I find great songs or artists I want to share my newfound love with the world. This is the goal of my blog, to feature one song a day that I am currently enjoying. I hope you enjoy and share new music with me.
